An assortment of quick snaps starting in Melbourne and ending over 1000 km's later in Sydney, Australia. Taken at lots of different (popular and not) spots. Thanks to Mountain Top Coffee for their cupping of an array of their own Australian grown coffees, and others, including our own Burundi. To Ross: A big cheers to for your hospitality and information, we should have listened to your advice about The Grounds (explained further down). On their recommendation we headed to Coffee Alchemy, a small cafe and roaster found quite far from Sydney central. With its sparkling Spirit Triplette, four Mazzer grinders, and… no food at all on premises, this cafe is not for the faint of heart. Roasting small quantities daily just out the back, Alchemy offered 3 single estate espressos, various V60 filtered coffees and a cold drip, options changing weekly. At A$5 per Panama Esmeralda espresso, my budget was blown after 15 ml of espresso and cup of filtered Ethiopia Machi. Well worth the stop. Our next notable stop was The Grounds of Alexandria, which my cousin summed up perfectly in the words 'more style than substance'. An old pie factory of the early 1900's, Grounds retains the modern warehouse style, boasting a cafe / restaurant, bakery, research facility (a fancy way of saying they roast on site? I think so) as well as organic garden. Simply, the place is gigantic. I asked if I could take some photos. 5 minutes later a man in a suit with a general managers tag hanging around his neck told me that I was allowed to take one photo inside… and no one cared that it wasn't a good one. A doubleshot latte later (equivalent to our flat white) and I was even more disappointed. My experience was definitely not one of "unbound passion for the art and science behind coffee" (as they claim on their website). But still the place was packed full. After all, how many cafes have a pig and chickens? Tip: For a great breakfast head to Bondi, Blue Orange Cafe. Daniel Weller
